How much do you charge? I believe in finding a balance between earning a fair salary and avoiding price gouging. You will find that my rates are significantly less than agency rates, but with the same level of quality and the same depth of experience. I do not publish my rates online because I am looking for serious clients who understand the value of good copy. With that said, I do charge market rates that I feel are fair and that reflect the professionalism, quality and personal attention my clients receive. My rates also take into account my extensive background and skills, the exceptional quality I am committed to delivering, and how seriously I take my business (I am a career writer, not a hobbyist). For most long-term clients, I work by the hour with estimates scoped up front. For other clients and for one-off projects, I either charge an hourly rate or a flat fee (depending on the project). For more information about how I charge and what to expect, visit my Work Terms page.
Can you give me a no obligation quote?
Absolutely! A detailed quote is provided prior to beginning any work so that there is agreement on scope and cost. Contact me at [email protected] to get started.
Do you provide free consultations?
Yes! I provide a 30 minute free initial consultation over the phone or via web conference (i.e. Skype or Webex). In some cases clients send me materials via email and I will provide a consultation that way. This time is meant to assess your needs and determine scope for the project. Any time beyond 30 minutes is considered part of the project work and is subject to normal charges. All anticipated meeting/call/conference time is built into the project quote prior to beginning work.
Can you work with my company as a vendor?
Yes! I have established an LLC to make this process easier for my clients. I use an EIN for tax purposes, therefore I can easily be brought on as an outside vendor for companies that require that type of arrangement.
Can you work on a W2 or Corp-to-Corp basis?
No. I currently only accept 1099 engagements.
How fast do you respond?
I pride myself in being very prompt with communication. I generally respond to emails within 2 hours during normal business hours (CST), and am generally reachable to a certain extent on weekday evenings. I give proactive status updates and constantly communicate with clients. This is your project and you should have proper access to your resource. Every step of the way.
How can I be sure I will receive what I am paying for?
I provide contracts for all clients that outline the scope of the project, estimated costs, and terms for revisions and cancellations. These contracts are meant to protect both parties and to provide a secure business transaction. This means that you WILL receive the work you pay for, and that you do have options for cancelling.
I pride myself in properly scoping and planning projects so that missing deadlines is never part of the conversation. Historically, any delays have been due to client delays in providing necessary information to begin or continue work. There is also always the possibility of unplanned serious illness (i.e. the flu or hospitalization of family members), as I am a one person business. Any anticipated delays are communicated as early as possible and reasonable timelines are given.
As a note, I do not agree to projects with unreasonable deadlines and/or improper scoping. This will only compromise quality or allow the possibility of a missed deadline, and I choose not to run my business that way.
What are my options for payment?
Most clients pay via invoice (and mail a check) or via direct deposit. I do have PayPal available for those clients wishing to pay by credit card, however check or direct deposit are my preferred methods of payment.
Do you outsource or subcontract work to other writers?
No. I do all of the writing and editing myself to maintain quality control. I currently have no plans to expand my operations, as I enjoy being a one person business.
